Update on the reader poll: sexual and power orientation
Here's an update as of today on the poll I've taken for a while (see the side bar of my blog). In summary, there's almost a 5 to 1 ratio between self-identified submissive men to dominant women.

I once read an amusing statement: The only shortage is of the type that you're looking for. This sounds like a "Murphy's Law" corollary, but makes sense when you think about it.
However, I actually do beleive that societal and cultural restraints (heh) make for the domme/sub imbalance.
Something to wonder about, though, is how many self-identified sub men are thinking in terms of extreme femdom, LFA, or weekend kink?

Interesting question, but one that is again colored by social/cultural restraints.
I know many women who once they have tasted their power in a D/s relationship, have started shedding their conditioning. These women would have answered your hypothetical question differently at the beginning of their journey than they would now.
